Nina Simone - Feeling Good

(Reblogged from vintagegal)

This song is stuck in my head. Now all of you can have it. Enjoy!

My dad just called and said he wants to take a week off of work and hang out with me. He said we could go horseback riding and ride bikes. Then he proceeded to sing this song to me.

This is grandmothers identical twin sister circa 1962.
I am a brown person who grew up in a very rich white town.
When I was little my aunt (or grandmother) would come to my school for performances or to pick me up and I would always get the same comment from my friends, “That’s your aunt? But she’s…white.” I’m sure all of their parents were thinking the same thing, but kids have no filters.

I was singing this while I washed dishes tonight. Hello…I’m 60.

Released 48 years ago today and it’s still fucking fantastic.
